Jamii Thabiti partner hosts key SGBV Bill consultation
Kwale, May 22, 2017:
Jamii Thabiti partner, Sauti Ya Wanawake, organised and hosted a crucial consultation meeting on the Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Bill, in Kwale County on Monday, May 22.
The consultation was attended by 21 key stakeholders, 13 of whom were women. The SGBV Bill, if passed, will help develop the necessary framework to address national issues caused by violence against women and girls (VAWG).
Among the attendees of the consultation were representatives from the Kwale Human Rights Network, the National Police Service, the Ministry of Health and the County Assembly – including the Hansard Officer and Childrens Officer. Representatives from Sauti Ya Wanawake and Jamii Thabiti also contributed to the consultation, which involved substantive discussions on the content of the bill’s clauses, from which recommendations for changes were made as appropriate.
